Kazakh akyn, dombra player, singer and composer. Pupil of Jambul. From childhood he composed and performed poems accompanied by dombra, and was famous among his peers for his vocal abilities. He is the author of about 150 poetic works based on music. He took an active part in the national liberation movement of 1916. Civil, spiritual, lyrical art of Azerbayev has earned him universal love and respect. The influence of his friend Jambul manifested itself in the acute social orientation of musical and poetic creativity. Among the songs created and performed by Azerbayev – "Our Motherland will win", "Call for peace", "Heroic Moscow", "Kazakhstan". He was called Honored artist of the Kazakh SSR (1957), People's akyn of the Kazakh SSR (1961), and he was a member of the Unions of writers and composers of the USSR.
