BENDER Heinrich (B-55)

German conductor, pianist and music teacher. In the recent history of interpretation, he was particularly involved as Bavarian Staatskapellmeister, first conductor at the Munich National Theatre and director of the studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich. In 1955 he was engaged as musical assistant at the Bayreuth Festival, where he worked for years with the Wagner brothers and important conductors such as Knappertsbusch, Keilberth, Cluytens. He did not accept an offer to move to Dresden as general music director after a guest performance at the Semperoper, as it was bound to the acceptance of GDR citizenship.
