Austrian child prodigy, pianist. In 1841, Karl Filtsch gave his first concert at the Vienna Musical Society, followed by tours in Hungary and Transylvania. In December 1842, he moved to Paris, where became the favorite pupil of Frederic Chopin. At the same time, Franz Liszt spoke enthusiastically about him. Throughout 1843, the young musician performed concerts in Paris, London, Brussels, Germany and Austria; the planned tour also included St. Petersburg, Prague, Zurich, Naples and other cities. However, Filtsch's European tour was interrupted by diagnosed tuberculosis: at the beginning of 1844, doctors sent him to Venice for sea bathing treatment where he soon died.
