GULDBERG Ansgar (G-99)

05/10/1868, Ullensaker, Norway - 15/01/1924, Oslo, Norway

Norwegian conductor, voice teacher and engineer. Ansgar Guldberg had a great impact on the development of Norwegian men's choir singing, and he left a deep mark as a male choir conductor. During all his life he worked for different mining companies as engineer, but music was his only love. Most significant and best known in Guldberg's work is his creation and management of Sangselskabet G.A.K. (Guldberg's Academic Choir), founded on 8 May 1916 "by and for academics to promote Norwegian men's singing". Through concerts and tours at home and abroad, this choir shed light on Norwegian academic choral singing and often represented Norway in the Nordic region and Europe in general. In addition, he started the elite choir A capella in 1921, which did not only consist of singers from the academic environment. At its debut concert in 1923, this choir premiered David Monrad Johansen's Dream Chorus.
