HÄNSELT Adolph (H-20)

Russian and German composer and pianist. At the age of three, Adolf began learning to play the violin, and two years later the piano. In 1832, he received a scholarship from King Ludwig I of Bavaria, thanks to which he was able to study piano for six months with Johann Nepomuk Hummel in Weimar. His debut on November 29, 1832 in Munich brought him considerable success. In 1838, Henselt was appointed court pianist to the Russian Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, from 1857 - Inspector General of the Tsar's educational institutions for noble maidens in St. Petersburg. Thanks to this position, Henselt was able to influence the musical life of Russia for the next forty years, while he left the concert stage at the age of 35. Among his many students are Alfred Heinrich Ehrlich (back in the German period), Nikolai Zverev, Ingeborg Stark, Ali Lindberg, Nikolai Behr, Vladimir Stasov and others.
